Virgin Voyages Valiant Lady Review: 4 Med Ports, the Ship, and Every Restaurant We Tried
One of my close friends and I recently sailed the Valiant Lady round-trip from Barcelona, and I have been talking about it ever since. This Virgin Voyages Valiant Lady review covers the whole thing honestly — France, Italy, and Spain, with an overnight in Ibiza that turned out to be the real reason to book this itinerary.
The only thing I wish was different is that it was longer, even though time constraints made that impossible. Every port was gorgeous, right out of a postcard. Even the usually annoying tender boat trip in Nice was made bearable by the sights.
What was the Valiant Lady itinerary?
Round-trip from Barcelona, with four calls: Nice, France · Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy · Ajaccio, Corsica · Ibiza, Spain — Ibiza as an overnight on the second-to-last day.
What I liked about the routing is that three of the four ports put you within walking distance of a swimmable beach. That is not something you get on most European itineraries, and it changes how you plan your days.
Nice, France: was the tender port worth it?
Yes, and the tender ride itself was more scenic than I expected.
In Nice we went to a restaurant called Felix La Nuit, about a 20-minute taxi from the tender port. It was recommended by a good friend, and she was absolutely correct. We ordered the truffle pasta and burrata, which came with delectable bread, oil, and balsamic. The decor was incredible — including the bathroom. Every detail, from the hardware to the small decorations, was intentional and thoughtful. The service matched it: our waiter was gracious, attentive, and very kind. This is one of my all-time favorite restaurants, and I will be bringing whoever is with me next time I am in Nice.

Afterward we walked about 10 minutes from the tender port to a public beach at the end of Promenade des Marinières. The beach is rocky, which was challenging at times, but the views made up for it. The water was a perfect temperature after a hot day, and our cruise-provided beach towels made it a great place to sit and chat. There is a train station right above the beach — next time, with more hours in port, I would use it to explore further.
Civitavecchia: is the $140 Rome excursion worth it?
For a first-timer, I would say yes — mostly because of the distance.
Civitavecchia is the closest cruise port to Rome, but “closest” still means about an hour and 15 minutes each way by car. We booked through Virgin Voyages for that reason. Our tour was “Rome Walking Tour and Free Time,” $140 per person, and they gave us a midway stop for restrooms and snacks. We were sailing during a heat wave, so we stocked up on water there.
We chose this excursion to see the main highlights and still have free time to explore, dine, and shop. It did exactly that. Our guides were attentive and made sure nobody got lost, which was a real task in a city that crowded, and we had a great time despite the heat. We used the Spanish Steps as our meeting point.
Rome has such a dense amount of history and culture that a shore-excursion day only scratches it. My honest takeaway is that I would rather build in real time there — before or after the sailing — than try to do Rome in six hours. Ajaccio, Corsica: my favorite port of the sailing
Beats, Bevs, and Breezes — and Valiant Lady waiting in port
Corsica is a French island in the Mediterranean, and the water there is genuinely great for water sports.
We booked a shore excursion called “Beats, Bevs, and Breezes on a Luxury Catamaran,” and it was an excellent choice. The catamaran picked us up right next to the ship and headed out to a snorkeling spot. There was unlimited rosé, which was a nice touch, plus a bar with other drinks for purchase. Swimming and snorkeling equipment was handed out once we arrived. The water was warm but not too warm, and the fish were plentiful and gorgeous. We had the option to swim to a beach club on shore, but we were having too much fun snorkeling and jumping off the boat.
After the excursion we walked to Plage Saint-François. The water was super clear and shallow a long way out, and the sand was not too rocky. There was not much aquatic life to see, but the beach itself was a dream and I will be recommending it to anyone visiting Ajaccio. The walk back to the ship was full of intricate architecture and cute cafés. A big plus for this port: the cruise terminal is very close to the beach, the cafés, and the shops.
Ibiza overnight: what do you actually do with it?
We docked in Ibiza around 7:00 PM on the second-to-last day, and the overnight is what makes this itinerary different from every other Western Med sailing.
We had tickets to see FISHER at UNVRS, Ibiza’s newest club, about a 15-minute taxi from the cruise port. We went around 10:00 PM, which turned out to be the right call — we got in before the crowd, redeemed our drink tickets with no line, and explored the venue while it was still walkable. FISHER did not come out until about 3:00 AM, but the wait was worth it. He knows how to put on a show. We ordered room service back on the ship afterward, which was much needed.
The next morning we walked to Talamanca Beach, gorgeous and lined with restaurants where you can eat. The water was a great temperature and very refreshing after the heat. From there we went to TKO for €1 tacos, which were incredible.
If you book this itinerary, plan the overnight before you sail. Tickets for the bigger Ibiza clubs go fast, and getting there early is what made our night work.
What is the Valiant Lady actually like as a ship?
I had a chance to tour Valiant Lady’s sister ship, Brilliant Lady, in April 2026. The layouts are nearly identical, so I boarded already knowing roughly where things were — which was a nice head start.
Valiant Lady is not the largest ship I have been on, and I liked the size. It never felt too crowded, and there always seemed to be somewhere else to go with a different vibe. Several lounges have live music at points during the day, plus a sports bar, good outdoor space, and plenty of entertainment.
The cabin: Central Sea Terrace

We had a Central Sea Terrace for two. The room is genuinely unique — a red hammock swing on the balcony, and buttons to signal when you would like the room serviced or when you do not want to be disturbed. The bed was comfy, and I loved the little side tables that made it easy to set down a phone or a water. Standard staterooms sleep up to four, with suites for larger groups; rooms configured for three or more come with bedding for that number, while ours had just the bed since there were two of us.
Pools and deck space
Two separate pool areas on the same deck, which I loved. One is where the pool parties happen; the other is for actual relaxing. Hot tubs on the main pool deck and on the deck above.
Nightlife
This is where the ship stood out most. On my Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Line sailings, the nightlife has been okay to moderate. Here it felt intentional — staff dancers setting the tone, a fantastic song list, and a two-story club with gorgeous lighting and decor that pulled the whole thing together.
The first night there was a PJ party on the back top deck. The vibes were immaculate. Dancing around in pajamas under the night sky was one of my favorite nights of the trip.
Where should you eat on Valiant Lady?
Every restaurant is included in the fare, which changes how you plan. We ate somewhere different every night and never once thought about a bill.

The Galley replaces the traditional top-deck buffet with stations: salad bar, sushi bar, all-day breakfast, a grill, taco bar, sandwich bar, ramen bar, and dessert. I will also argue I have a fantastic sense for ranch, and the ranch at The Pizza Place was impressive — though the pizza did not really need it.

One thing worth calling out: the Virgin Voyages crew was extremely attentive about food allergies. They cared about our well-being and made sure no allergens were present where they should not have been. If that is a concern for you or your travel companions, it was handled well.
How does Virgin Voyages compare to Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Line?
I have sailed both, so here is the honest read.
The biggest structural difference is that Virgin is 18+ only and includes all its restaurants, fitness classes, basic WiFi, and gratuities in the fare. That removes the constant math you do on other lines about which dining package to buy. It also means the entire onboard mood is different — no kids’ clubs, no character breakfasts, no family-programming rhythm.
Where Virgin clearly won for me was nightlife and food. Where a family line still wins is, obviously, families. If you are weighing lines before you book, we broke down what actually makes Virgin Voyages different from other cruise lines in more detail.
Where should you stay before or after a Barcelona round-trip cruise?
Give yourself at least one night in Barcelona on the front end. Transatlantic flights and same-day embarkation is a gamble I would not take, and Barcelona rewards the extra day anyway.
A beachfront property like W Barcelona is the kind of pre-cruise base I would evaluate — it is one of the few hotels in the area with direct beach access and its own beach club, which is a nice way to reset before you board. If you have more than a night, a one-week Barcelona and Costa Brava itinerary is worth looking at.

Would I sail Virgin Voyages again?
Without hesitation. Each port on this itinerary had its own flair, and I have already started looking at future Virgin Voyages sailings with some of the same ports and some new ones.
Writing this Virgin Voyages Valiant Lady review has mostly reminded me how much easier it is to advise on a product once you have lived it. The ships are fun, the food is delicious, and there is more than enough to keep you entertained. Having toured Brilliant Lady before this sailing, the differences I noticed were in details and destination-specific touches rather than in the ship’s bones.
